NOVEMBER 2011 NEWSLETTER
Chairwomen’s letter,
Dear Members
During the AGM meeting held on Monday 14th November, our Chairman of 2011, Richard Bannister advised that he would be stepping down from the Chairman’s role (but will remain on the committee for 2012) and as a result, I was happily voted in as new Chairperson for 2012! I have been a member of Malton for some time and a keen committee member last year and I am now looking forward to the fun (and challenges no doubt!) of helping run the club, along with the committee team. As always, any input and help offered by our members is greatly valued and appreciated and if anyone would like to get involved then please contact a committee member.
I would like to start with a big thank you to all the members who returned the questionnaires which provided vital feedback and ideas on how to help us continually improve our riding club for the members and to encourage new members to join us.
The general feedback related to a request for more competitions to be run on a surface and for the season to be extended. Whilst we would certainly like to hold more competitions into the autumn and winter months, the cost of running competitions on a surface is very high and the committee feel that it would be too risky to run competitions on a surface when taking entries on the day, where in the event of poor turnout the cost of arena hire would not be covered and the club finances would suffer! However, we will look into arranging pre-entry competitions on a surface such as a fun team event over winter…..so watch this space!
In order to help extend the season, we are aiming to run at least one clinic a month between January to April, which will include the re-scheduled clinic with Tracey Newman. Dates for the clinics will be circulated and added to the website once confirmed.
The questionnaires also told us that members felt that they would like a catering van at all competitions held at the club field. We are unable to obtain a catering van for the smaller competitions as the catering companies do not receive enough business to make it worthwhile. However next year, we will be providing the opportunity to purchase refreshments such as bottled drinks, crisps and snacks so I hope this will improve things.
It was also discussed about the logo of our club MDRC, there is another club in area 4 which comes under the name of Maltby & District R.C (MDRC), so we have decided to switch to Malton R.C (MRC) which will appear on all logos and clothing but will not affect our website which remains the same.
As some of you will know, we are taking steps improve our website and we hope this will be completed before the start of next season. in the meantime, if any members have pictures from events held this year, would they please email them to Katie (kanda97@msn.com) as we would like to update the gallery on the website and share the great fun we have! Also COMING SOON……all new style Malton Riding Club clothing available to buy…. more information to follow.
Last but certainly not least, I would like to take this opportunity to say a huge CONGRATULATIONS to the teams who competed at the Area Winter Dressage in Richmond on Sunday 20th November. Firstly, our Junior teams Jess Johnson, Sophie Lear, Ellie Fairclough, Erin Chan, Katherine Holmes & Callum Small did us proud yet again by coming 1st and 2nd in the team event and all with top 6 placings individually. Also a fantastic result for a senior team Nicky Lyons, Katie Robertshaw, Jenny Dangar, Chloe Fairley, Lesley Helliwell, Mary Bales, Sallie & Ellen Warters who came 6th and 10th as a team out of a total of 28 teams across the competition ….. a great result I’m sure you will all agree!
I hope you all have a fantastic Christmas and I look forward to seeing you all in the New Year!
Jenny Kaye
