MAY 2012 NEWSLETTER
Chairwomen’s letter,
Hi everyone
Despite the wet weather, I hope you are managing to get out and enjoying some competitions, I know many people have been disappointed about the number that have been abandoned recently, let’s hope things pick up soon!
We are due to get the club field at the end of the month, just in time for our first dressage competition on Sunday 27th May which we are looking forward to! We have attached another entry form should you need one.
As you will know, we have arranged our yearly summer BBQ at Middleton Arms, North Grimston. Due to Bramham Horse Trials taking place 7-10 June, we have decided to move the date to Saturday 23 June 2012 so everyone has a chance to come and enjoy themselves! Similar to previous years, we have a BBQ, disco, bucking bronco and bouncy castle on offer! I’m sure it will be great fun so hopefully many of you will be able to come! The tickets are £10 pp and can be bought from any committee member, or by sending a SAE to Nicky Lyons.
The Area 4 Horse Show cross took place at Epworth on 15thApril and Malton had a great day! Competing on our behalf for the juniors were Callum Small (who took individual 3rd), Lily Spencer, Amy Small and Suzannah Dunn in the novice team, Sam Pugh and Lily Spencer in the junior pairs who came 2nd. The senior novice team consisted of Nicky Shepherdson, Carole Taylor, John Coldbeck and Katie Robertshaw, both Nicky and Carole were first timers to area competitions and thoroughly enjoyed it with the bonus of the team coming 5th. The senior intermediate team came 4th and consisted of Sallie Warters, Sharon Bumby and John Coldbeck.
More news is that we also held our first clinic with Margot Tiffany on 24th April. Luckily the weather was kind to us and everyone really enjoyed their lessons (even if someone did arrive late due to going to the wrong venue!! – you know who you are!! J ). We have already had great interest in the next clinic with Margot which will be taking place on 26 June 2012 at the club field (subject to change weather permitting), so if you would like to take part then please send your forms into Nicky.
The Russ Underwood jumping clinic is going ahead as planned on Thursday 24th May at Thornthorpe. This has also had a great amount of interest with only a few places remaining so if you would like to take part, please send your form in.
I look forward to seeing many of you at the dressage on 27th. As always, any help that can be offered to set up for competitions across the season are greatly appreciated!
Bye for now! J
Jenny

Rider or loan wanted for 12.2 Welsh pony (possible sale considered)
We have a 5 year old 12.2 grey gelding who was broken last summer. He is currently ridden about 6 times a month but needs more riding to reach his full potential. He has been with us since a two year old and is basically quiet and sensible. He is ridden around the farm by my daughter on the lead rein and has been on the roads. My daughter is just getting going on her 11.3 pony so this pony would be ideal for her in couple of years time which is why I am happy to hang on to him or loan him out. Sale to right home would be considered. He can stay with us if someone wants to come and ride him. I would let him go to pony club and shows with the right person. I am open and flexible to any suggestions - just feel he needs to do more than he is currently. If interested please call/text Emma Robson on 07974 915645.

Welcome to Malton Riding Club
Established in 2000 Malton Riding Club is one of 400 Affiliated British Riding clubs located throughout the UK, following the set up of the British Riding Clubs by the British Horse Society in 1953.
As a club we regularly hold flatwork, show jumping and xc clinics which are held throughout the year and offer a good level of training. The club regularly holds events for members and non members. Members have the advantage of entry fees at a reduced cost. See our events page for details of the MRC competitions.
Our members are encouraged to try competing in new disciplines and to compete at Area level. British Riding Clubs divide the whole of the UK into areas : Malton Riding Club is in Area 4. Members can compete on teams or as individuals at Area 4 competitions, if successful get to represent the Area at National Riding Club Championships which has a great atmosphere and a lot of members go down purely for support and a great time is had by all.
We have competed at Lincoln Championships now for several years with many placings,in 2007 Emma Taylor and Downtown Tilly were crowned Individual Junior SJ Champion, 2007 senior team finished 8th team at the Hartbury indoor sj championships, senior team 5th 2008 Aston Le Walls xc championships, senior team 8th 2008 at Off Churchbury ODE Championships where Charlotte Knock took an indiviual Junior ODE Champion title, senior team 5th Intermediate SJ at LIncoln 09 and Wendy Hoggard took indiviual Senior Riding test Champion in her arena also finishing 3rd overall at Lincoln in 09. In 2010 the junior team won the Quadrille at Licoln championships. As a club each year we attract more and more members and each year we go from strength to strength.
As a club were the only one in the UK in 2008 to be placed in the top 10 in team events at 3 of the 5 BRC National Championships that have taken place. Quite an achievement!
We are a friendly club every one is willing to offer a helping hand whether it be riding or just general advice, it is great fun socially and a chance to meet new friends.
Take a look at our site to find out more about club activities and events. If you are interested in joining Malton Riding Club please click onto our membership page for details and an application form.
